Heather & Derek’s Intimate Savannah Wedding by Beauty & Beard Photography
Written by the Bride – Heather
Originally, Derek and I had planned to be married at a venue in Augusta, GA in June, 2019, so that we could have a large wedding with all of our friends and family. But life threw us a curve ball – my mom was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer about a month after we got engaged. We didn’t know if she would be able to make it to our wedding the following June, so Derek and I agreed to move the wedding up. We knew Derek was scheduled to return home from his deployment to Afghanistan about a week before Thanksgiving – only 7 weeks away at that time.
I probably called just about every venue in the state of Georgia and South Carolina, looking to see if there were any openings for a Friday or Saturday. That is when I stumbled across Vic’s On The River. They happened to have an opening for Black Friday in the Stoddard Room, overlooking the Savannah River, so I immediately booked it. I hashed everything out with Vic’s event directors, Justyna and Joey, in the span of about 36 hours… and the rest is history! Despite having a VERY small window in which to plan everything, I was pleasantly surprised how easily everything fell together.
For our pre-wedding festivities, we booked a nearby AirBnB for the holiday weekend and hosted a massive Thanksgiving Dinner (with the host’s permission) in lieu of a rehearsal dinner. My step-mom, Sammy, ran Derek and I out of the kitchen so that she could direct the food. See, she is a banquet manager for a large university and was all too happy to take over directing the kitchen and organizing the food. The weather was gorgeous and most of our guests spent the afternoon either watching the football games in our AirBnB or exploring Savannah’s rich downtown architecture. Derek and I were so thankful to have that time prior to the wedding to spend relaxing with family and eating lots of delicious food. One of our most cherished memories, is the group photo snapped for us by a jogger that happened to be passing by our AirBnB as everyone was getting ready to turn in for the evening.
On the day of the wedding, the festivities continued with friends and family stopping by while we were getting ready to give us well wishes or ask if we needed any last minute things taken care of – and to cruise the breakfast buffet that my Maid of Honor and best friend, Mairelys, had cooked that morning. Once Derek and I were ready to go, our photographers (and now friends!), Jordan & Morgan, led the way to Forsyth Park. We took some seriously stunning photos in front of it’s famous fountain and had tons of well-wishes shouted to us from absolute strangers – it really made the day that much more special. Once we arrived at the venue, walking down the aisle with my dad was surreal. My son led the way as a ring bearer with his “Ring Bear” box and stood next to us as Derek and I took vows. I am so glad we have our wedding photos – that day was such a whirlwind! Derek and I ended our big day with “The Time of My Life” (1987) from Dirty Dancing, and sweet, bubbly exit out onto Bay Street.
Since the wedding planning was EXTREMELY fast-paced, we really had to place a lot of faith & trust in our vendors to come through on our big day, even though we hadn’t actually finalized a lot of the smaller details. It turned out to be the best. decision. ever. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect, elegant day to get married. Derek and I are very low maintenance people and not ones to agonize over the small things, so we were absolutely thrilled with the way everything turned out. To this day, we still receive compliments on how family oriented and FUN our wedding weekend was!
As for where we are now, you know what they say, “First comes Love & Marriage, then comes…” Derek and I welcomed another baby in February 2020, just three weeks after our friends, Jordan and Morgan did! Best yet, my mom has made it through her cancer treatments and is enjoying her newest grandchild.

“We got to meet this couple and do their engagement session a while ago and could tell we would absolutely love them! He is military and they had originally planned to have the wedding around March this year but found out he would be deployed so they decided to do it as soon as possible and go to Savannah for an intimate destination wedding. We actually stayed and spent time with them and their friends/family after the wedding was over and call them friends now. The wedding album is literally one of our favorites that we have ever shot and holds such a special place in our heart and plus Savannah is just simply beautiful!” – Jordan Perryman
We’re a husband and wife team that offer both photo and video local to Georgia and traveling all over as well. It started as a company that was just the husband (Jordan) under a different name and once we got married and Morgan got super involved, we rebranded to Beauty & Beard Photography to fit us better. We have been in the wedding industry since 2014 and now that we’re both full time and it’s allowing us to spend time with our son, we are more in love with our work than ever!
