Katie & Riley’s Elopement at Savannah’s Wormsloe Historic Site by Daniel Meadows Photography

Katie & Riley’s Wedding Story

Riley and I met on a blind “date” sneakily arranged by my cousin. That was the unexpected start of us! Despite Covid-19, I had always wanted a small intimate wedding. I think it is something special to commit to one another surrounded by only your immediate family in a magical, fairytale location a little ways from home. We live in Greenville, SC, but we chose to have our ceremony in Savannah, GA solely because I had never visited there. All the planning happened virtualy during the thick of Covid-19.

We got married exactly a year later from the day we met! Both my mom and dad lead me down the dusty aisle to Laren Daigle’s “Love Like This”. We promised our lives to each other under the Souther Live Oaks covered in Spanish moss. My mom held my gorgeous flowers from Paris Mountain Petals (Greenville, SC) as Riley and I joined hands. Our parents and siblings circled around us covering our marriage in prayer. Then we celebrated with a toast! After more photos, we met at The Olde Pink House downtown Savannah for the most delicious, beautiful dinner! It was a sweet, enchanting day to begin forever together!

We spent the following week exploring Savannah. When we arrived home, we had a stunning party with more family and friends!

Katie & Riley’s Engagement Story & Ring Details

Riley had it all planned. We would go on a short hike, have a picnic at the waterfall, and he would propose (with a friend hiding in the bushes to take photos). Well, I wasn’t feeling great enough to hike that day, but he had already planned a surprise engagement party for that afternoon! We decided to go strawberry picking instead. We called that morning to double check they were open… and they had sold out of strawberries in one hour! Riley suggested we walk downtown Greenville, but I suggested downtown Travelers Rest. We were strolling along Main Street of the tiny town when he gave me his jacket to wear. He was a little bummed I didn’t find the ring in the pocket. We made our way to a cute bench across from Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse. He said there was something for me in his jacket pocket. I slowly pulled out a wooden box with the most sparkling ring in it! He asked me to marry him and I said yes, yes, yes! Sometimes the unexpected is the most perfect!
